You can imagine edicts as slots in the Hl2-engine to register entitys. As a conclusion, every weld connection, every rope and every map entity need a free edict slot. If all slots are engaged your game will crash and you get the engine error: ED_Alloc: No free edicts. So it's advisable to disable some map features to get more free edicts.
